our revolution is not a trend
our revolution is not a trend
no hashtag can carry the thread of connection that braids our blood
our revolution is not a trend
each heartbeat hears the echoes of a story with no end
one thousand and one moons
and we'll never lose faith in you
step by step, she carries us just a tad bit further. not because it is "the right" thing to do.
because the flame in her gut births a conscience so bright she cannot ignore.
"stand on my eyes so you can see. i hear the bells of freedom out there."
my roots rebel
revel in the dim whistle
that scratches like wildfire
our revolution is not a trend
our tune will not be forgotten
hum their ancient melodies in my ear
i digest them so my kin can hear
remix our rhymes till they melt your mind
step aside as this generation wipes out your kind
spill the poison through your soul
till you whirl your way into control
reunite our land, fertilize our truth
it's my honor to present you: Iranian youth
i wrote this piece in March 2023 during the Iranian New Year. i was inspired by the sustained uprisings in Iran that were re-ignited after the murder of 22-year-old Jina Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish Iranian woman.
